Let me illustrate with a real-life example I used a few years ago.

I was at a business convention having a quick lunch with a woman I just met. For some reason, our conversation went from business to personal in a flash.

I didn’t tell her I was a relationship coach, but I did tell her I “had a reputation for solving love problems quickly.” And when she asked for a story, I told her this Monomyth.

“So, I have a background in applied psychology, so I know how people tick. And one day, one of my female friends asked me for advice about her boyfriend.

“She said she loved him, but he was pressing for marriage too persistently. She said every time she declined or asked for more time, he’d fly into a rage.

“And so she asked me for help. She said she loved him, but she didn’t feel like marrying him. She didn’t know what to do.

“So I told her—‘That’s natural. You’re feeling unsure because you don’t know if he’ll be a good husband. After all, he’s supposed to be strong and emotionally tough—but here he is, throwing a fit every time you don’t do what he says. That turns you off, which is why you don’t want to marry him.’

“And you could see her face light up at that same moment. She told me, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re right! That’s exactly how I feel! I get it now!’

“And so, this little friend of mine stopped seeing the guy. She eventually found a better man, and they lived happily ever after—as far as I know.”

That’s it. That was the Monomyth. It had a hero—that’s me—a conflict, a lesson, a victory, and a reward. And the best thing? I told the story in less than two minutes.

What happened next? My new business friend warmed up to me instantly. We spent the rest of the day—and night—together. And throughout the wonderful 3-month relationship that followed, we discussed no business. Only pleasure.

That, my friend, is the power of a good Monomyth. Find true stories in your life that highlight your most attractive traits. As long as your stories portray you as a risk-taking, overcoming, woman-savvy guy—you’re golden.
